Free GPU credits for startups in 2026: every program compared, and which need no investor
Short answer: without an investor, the free GPU credits worth applying for in 2026 are the Runpod Starter tier ($1,000 for pre-Series A teams with a working product), the Anyscale AI Startup Program (up to $20,000, plus field engineers) and NVIDIA Inception, which is free to join and unlocks partner offers such as $1,000 in Lambda Cloud credits. If you are an AI startup or SME in Europe, the EuroHPC AI Factories give GPU hours on EU supercomputers free of charge, from a Playground allocation up to Large Scale requests of more than 50,000 GPU hours. With VC backing, add Together AI (up to $50,000), Baseten (up to $27,500), Modal and, for Y Combinator companies, $20,000 from Lambda.
The Grant Index tracks 13 GPU and compute programs, plus research allocations and inference platforms that pay for GPU time, each checked against its official page (the date is in the "Verified" column). 6 of the open GPU programs ask for no investor, referral or minimum funding. This guide covers what each program gives, who qualifies, and the conditions that catch teams out. For model API credits and the big cloud tiers, see our free AI credits guide and cloud credits guide.
1. GPU cloud programs you can apply to without an investor
These programs give credits on a GPU cloud directly. The amounts are modest, but they are enough to fine-tune a model or run a production inference pilot, and most decide quickly.
| Program | What you get | Who qualifies | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runpod Startup Program — Starter TierRunpod | $1,000 in free Runpod credits | Pre-Series A teams with a working product and near-term GPU needs; mainly first-time Runpod customers; selective. | 2026-10-22 |
| Anyscale AI Startup ProgramAnyscale | Up to $20,000 in Anyscale credits + field-engineer support | Amount decided by Anyscale after a qualification form; review weighs funding, technical maturity and current cloud spend. Stacks with AWS, GCP and Azure credits because Ray runs in your own cloud. | 2026-10 |
| NVIDIA InceptionNVIDIA | Free membership: partner cloud credits, preferred GPU/hardware pricing, DLI training, VC introductions (no fixed $ value published) | Incorporated, under 10 years old, with a working website and a clear use for NVIDIA technology. No revenue needed. Consultancies, crypto companies, cloud providers and resellers excluded. | 2026-10-22 |
| Lambda Cloud credits for NVIDIA Inception membersLambda | $1,000 in Lambda Cloud credits for on-demand GPU instances (B200, H100, A100, GH200) | Inception members only; one grant per company; card and location in an eligible country (most of the EU, US, UK and others; Lithuania excluded). Credits expire 12 months after being applied. | 2026-10-22 |
| AMD AI Developer ProgramAMD | $100 in AMD Developer Cloud credits (AMD Instinct GPUs) on joining, plus training and perks | Free membership for developers, students and startups; no AMD hardware needed; credits at AMD's discretion. | 2026-10-22 |
| Vast.ai Startup ProgramVast.ai | Dollar-for-dollar credit match on verified compute spend, up to an amount set on approval (no fixed figure published) | No upfront free credits: Vast.ai matches verified compute spend, so you must already run training or inference workloads. | 2026-10-22 |
Start with NVIDIA Inception. It costs nothing, has no funding test and is the key to several partner offers, so join as soon as you incorporate and have a website. Inception itself has no fixed dollar value: the benefit is the partner credits, preferred hardware pricing, training and investor introductions.
2. Larger GPU credits that need funding or a partner
The bigger offers check your backing. Some want a named investor; others want a minimum round or a cash commitment.
| Program | What you get | Who qualifies | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lambda Cloud compute offer for Y Combinator companiesLambda | $20,000 in Lambda Cloud credits for on-demand GPU instances | Companies in a Y Combinator batch only; Lambda verifies YC status; company email and an eligible-country card. | 2026-10-22 |
| Nebius for Startups (NVIDIA Inception offer)Nebius | $5,000 introductory credits + up to $150,000 in compute discounts as you scale | Currently only through a Nebius partner VC, for startups with $5M+ raised; others are waitlisted. | 2026-10-22 |
| Modal for StartupsModal | 'Thousands' of free GPU credits for Seed–Series A; custom credits for Series B+ (no fixed figure published) | Seed to Series A raised from a Modal partner VC, or more than $1M from any fund; must be new to Modal; payment method required. | 2026-10-22 |
| Runpod Startup Program — Growth TierRunpod | $25,000 bonus credits when you commit $50,000 upfront ($75,000 total) | Not free credits: a $25,000 bonus when you commit $50,000 upfront on a 12-month agreement. Aimed at venture-backed teams spending $5K to $25K+ a month on GPUs. | 2026-10-22 |
Read Runpod Growth carefully. It is a discount on committed spend, not a grant. It only makes sense if you would spend $50,000 on Runpod in the next year anyway.
3. Inference and fine-tuning credits instead of raw GPUs
If you serve or fine-tune open-weight models, a managed platform's credits can replace renting GPUs yourself, and you skip the infrastructure work.
| Program | What you get | Who qualifies | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| Together AI Startup AcceleratorTogether AI | Up to $15K (≤$5M raised), $30K ($5–10M) or $50K (>$10M) in platform credits + forward-deployed engineering hours | Selection-based; the credit tier follows total funding raised (up to $15K under $5M raised). Credits do not cover Reserved GPU Clusters. | 2026-10-22 |
| Baseten for StartupsBaseten | Up to $25,000 for Dedicated Inference/Training + up to $2,500 for Model APIs | Seed to Series A with institutional backing, under 5 years old, net-new Baseten customers; credits expire 6 months after the grant. | 2026-10-22 |
| fal Startup Programfal | $1,000 starter pack, growing to $2,500 and $5,000 as monthly fal spend rises | Teams in Europe or Asia with real users, revenue or VC backing; higher tiers unlock as monthly fal spend grows. | 2026-10-22 |
| DeepInfra DeepStartDeepInfra | ~50 billion free tokens (valued at DeepSeek V4 Flash prices); USD value not stated | Raised $250K to $10M and founded within 2 years; about 50 billion tokens; credits expire 1 year after approval. | 2026-10-23 |
4. Free GPU hours on European supercomputers
The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking runs three access modes on its AI Factory supercomputers for industry users, including startups and SMEs. Access is free for innovation purposes, and the AI Factory hosting the system gives expert support.
| Program | What you get | Who qualifies | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| EuroHPC AI Factories — Playground AccessEuroHPC Joint Undertaking | Free entry-level GPU allocation on an EU AI Factory supercomputer for 1–3 months | For startups and SMEs new to HPC; access in about 2 working days, first come, first served; one system per request. | 2026-10-22 |
| EuroHPC AI Factories — Fast Lane AccessEuroHPC Joint Undertaking | Up to 50,000 GPU hours free for 1–3 months | For teams already familiar with HPC; up to 50,000 GPU hours; access intended within 4 working days. | 2026-10-22 |
| EuroHPC AI Factories — Large Scale AccessEuroHPC Joint Undertaking | More than 50,000 GPU hours free (up to millions per proposal) for 3–12 months | Requests above 50,000 GPU hours; technical and peer review; twice-monthly cut-offs with a decision within 10 working days. | 2026-10-22 |
These are supercomputers, not a cloud console: expect batch scheduling, a job queue and a learning curve. Start with Playground to test your stack, then request Fast Lane or Large Scale once your training run is ready. Some systems are temporarily closed to new allocations, so check the list on the EuroHPC page for each mode.
5. Research and open-source compute
If your work is research you can publish, or an open demo, these programs give compute without a dollar cap, but they come with an expectation to share results.
| Program | What you get | Who qualifies | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google TPU Research Cloud (TRC)Google | Free access to a cluster of 1,000+ Cloud TPU devices (no $ value stated) | Free Cloud TPU capacity for ML research; results must be shared openly (papers, code or posts); feedback to Google expected. | 2026-10-22 |
| Hugging Face Community GPU GrantsHugging Face | Free GPU hardware (typically ZeroGPU) for selected Hugging Face Spaces (no $ value stated) | Free GPU upgrades, usually ZeroGPU, for innovative public Spaces likely to be used by many people. | 2026-10-22 |
| NAIRR Pilot — Start-Up ProjectsU.S. National Science Foundation (NAIRR Pilot) | Up to 2,000 GPU-hours (or equivalent) on one national AI resource for 3 months | US researchers and educators; startups only if they hold a federal grant such as SBIR/STTR; must start within 2 weeks of award. | 2026-10-22 |
| NSF ACCESS AllocationsU.S. National Science Foundation (ACCESS) | Free HPC/GPU allocations: Explore up to 400K, Discover 1.5M, Accelerate 3M ACCESS credits; Maximize larger | US researchers and educators for open science; institutional email required; no NSF award needed. | 2026-10-22 |
6. Using cloud startup credits for GPUs
The largest credits for compute are still the hyperscaler startup programs, such as the Google Cloud AI tier (up to $350,000 for funded startups building on Gemini), AWS Activate Portfolio (up to $200,000 with an Org ID) and Microsoft for Startups (up to $150,000 as Azure usage grows). Before you count on them for GPUs, check what they cover: GPU capacity is often limited, and some smaller clouds exclude it outright. DigitalOcean Hatch and the Civo Startup Program exclude GPU products, and the IONOS program says capacity-limited resources such as Cloud GPUs may be excluded. Our cloud credits guide compares the tiers.
7. A stacking order for GPU credits
- Join NVIDIA Inception and the AMD AI Developer Program when you incorporate. Both are free, and Inception unlocks the Lambda offer.
- Prototype on free capacity. Use the Runpod Starter tier or Lambda credits for experiments, and EuroHPC Playground if you are in Europe and your workload suits a supercomputer.
- Apply to Anyscale when you scale distributed training or serving: its credits sit on top of the cloud credits you already have.
- After you raise, collect the gated offers: Together AI's higher tiers, Baseten, Modal (partner VC or over $1M raised) and the cloud tiers that need an Org ID or referral code.
- Move to committed-spend deals last. Vast.ai's spend match and Runpod Growth pay off only once you know your monthly GPU bill.
8. Conditions that catch teams out
- New customers only. Runpod, Modal and Baseten are mainly or only for first-time customers, so do not burn a free tier with a personal account first.
- Short expiry. Lambda credits expire 12 months after they are applied, Baseten's after 6 months and DeepInfra's a year after approval.
- Country and card rules. Lambda checks where you are located and where your card is issued, and fal only accepts teams in Europe or Asia.
- Excluded business types. NVIDIA Inception and Nebius exclude consultancies, resellers, cloud providers and crypto businesses; Baseten excludes agencies and dev shops.
- Reserved capacity. Together AI credits do not apply to Reserved GPU Clusters, and EuroHPC Playground and Fast Lane requests cover one system each.

FAQ
Can I get free GPU credits without VC funding?
Yes. The Runpod Starter tier ($1,000), the Anyscale AI Startup Program (up to $20,000), NVIDIA Inception (free membership that unlocks $1,000 in Lambda credits) and the AMD AI Developer Program ($100) list no investor requirement, and EuroHPC AI Factory access is free for European startups and SMEs. In total, 6 open GPU programs in our index ask for no investor, referral or minimum funding.
Does NVIDIA Inception give free GPU credits?
Not directly. Membership is free and has no fixed dollar value, but it unlocks partner offers such as $1,000 in Lambda Cloud credits, preferred pricing on NVIDIA hardware and training. Nebius also has an Inception offer ($5,000 plus compute discounts), currently limited to startups with $5M+ raised that come through a Nebius partner VC.
Which program gives the most free GPU credits?
Among GPU-specific programs, Together AI (up to $50,000 for startups with more than $10M raised), Baseten (up to $27,500) and Anyscale (up to $20,000). EuroHPC Large Scale access can be bigger in GPU hours (more than 50,000 per request), and the hyperscaler startup tiers are larger in dollars, but check whether they cover the GPU capacity you need.
Are there free GPUs for European startups?
Yes. The EuroHPC AI Factories offer Playground, Fast Lane (up to 50,000 GPU hours) and Large Scale (more than 50,000 GPU hours) access on EU supercomputers, free of charge for startups and SMEs using them for innovation. fal also runs a startup program for teams in Europe and Asia.
Is the Runpod startup program free?
The Starter tier is: $1,000 in credits for pre-Series A teams with a working product. The Growth tier is a match, not a grant: commit $50,000 upfront on a 12-month agreement and Runpod adds $25,000 in bonus credits.
Can researchers get free GPU time?
Yes, through research programs rather than startup offers: Google's TPU Research Cloud for openly shared ML research, NSF ACCESS and the NAIRR Pilot for researchers at US institutions, and Hugging Face community GPU grants for public Spaces.
